With the tragic death of tv presenter Caroline Flack this weekend, I felt it was time to have some ‘me’ time today.
Not only is her death a reminder to be kind to each other, it’s also a reminder that we need to remember to be kind to ourselves.
I’ve neglected my self care regime recently, but with a lot of stress at work over the last few weeks and the weeks that lie ahead, it’s important that I take time to look after myself so I can be better prepared to deal with the things that I’m having to deal with throughout the working week.
So today it was time to say goodbye to my plans and focus on me. With Storm Dennis rattling around outside, it was a perfect opportunity to burn some incense and to have an afternoon of self care.
First up, it was time to take a long hot shower, before applying GlamGlow Black #glittermask. I’ve had this treatment sitting in the bathroom cupboard for a little while, and decided that today would be a good time to try something new.
As much as I knew I was applying a ‘glitter mask’ I hadn’t expected it to be an absolute glitter fest! Full of stars and sparkles, I applied a thin layer of glitter to my face, before sitting back on the sofa and catching up on some reading whilst it set.
The setting time for this mask varies dependent on how thick you apply it. As this was my first time using the product, I didn’t apply a very thick layer as I wasn’t sure whether my skin would like it or not. However, I still left it for a good 10-15 minutes before peeling off the mask. Again, as I had applied a thin layer, I wasn’t sure how easily the mask would peel away, so I was surprised that it was actually really easy. It didn’t quite peel away in one go, but it wasn’t far off!
My skin looked great afterwards, it felt firmer and brighter than it had done for a long time. Next time, I’m keen to slather on a slightly thicker layer to see whether this makes even more of a difference to my skin.
Next up, it was time to give my lips some much needed tlc. Although we haven’t had a cold winter so far this year, the elements have still taken their toll on my rough, chapped lips.
I applied a thin layer of Glamglow Poutmud Fizzy Exfoliating Treatment to my lips, and gently massaged it into my lips adding a splash of water to ensure the texture wasn’t too rough against my lips. After I had rinsed the exfoliating treatment from my lips, I slathered on a good layer of Nivea Lip Balm.
To finish off my self care facial, it was time to give my eyebrows a good seeing too. Because I have such fair eyebrows, I tend to leave them quite bushy, as you can’t really see them, even once I’ve applied my eyebrow colour. But every now and again I get the tweezers out just to tidy them up a little bit.
Foot bath heaven
Once ‘project face’ was complete, it was time to move onto my feet, a part of the body which tends to get neglected, which is crazy when you stop to consider how much pressure we put on our paws!
I grabbed an old washing up bowl, filled it up with warm water and some foot soak, and sat back and drifted off to sleep for a few minutes whilst I left my feet to soak. I then gave them a quick rub with an exfoliator to get rid of any hard skin, slathered them in Palmer’s Cocoa Butter with Vitamin E Foot Magic before putting on some warm socks to allow the Foot Magic to work it’s magic.
After some much needed pampering, it was time for some mindful cooking. As it approaches pay day, it was time to start using up the food I have in the cupboards. I found some tinned chick peas tucked away at the back of the cupboard, so I decided to give Chana Masala a try.
Losing yourself in a new recipe is a great way of creating some time for mindfulness. Focusing on a recipe gives our minds something else to think about, and can be a good way of switching off from the outside world.
It wasn’t my best curry (I definitely over did it with the chillies!), but it was perfectly edible and the preparation of it definitely helped me to switch off from the week ahead.
With an early night on the cards tonight, that leaves me with just enough time for a 10 minute meditation, and I might even have time to squeeze in a manicure!
Happy Self Care Sunday everyone, and please don’t forget to be kind to everyone, including yourself 🙏🏻✨💕
