St Albans
After a wobbly start to the year, a weekend to readjust was on the cards. I took a brief trip to the lovely St Albans on Saturday to meet up with my family. We’ve often suggested meeting half way between Northampton and London, but never actually done it.
St Albans is pretty much in the middle and takes just over an hour to reach from Northampton and London.
We met at Verulamium Park for a lovely brunch, walked through the park to the Cathedral, and onto the shops.
None of us had ever been to St. Albans before, so we didn’t know what to expect. It certainly didn’t disappoint. It’s such a beautiful, peaceful place.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to look around the cathedral. I would love to return and have a proper look around to see what else St Albans has to offer.

From St Albans, I headed back to my flat. It was time to have a New Year clear out as I settle into life as a singleton. Cupboards have been emptied, Christmas presents taken out of their boxes, and decorations put away for another year. I have no idea how I’m going to get my Christmas tree out the flat without dropping its needles everywhere. The neighbours are going to love me when I try to get it out the front door later this week!
The sort out has commenced, but I have piles of stuff waiting to find their new homes. But I’m in no rush. It will give me something to focus on when I get home from work this week.
It’s been quite therapeutic changing things around though. It really is starting to feel like the fresh start I needed.
Jogging
Along with starting the big clear out, I also managed to get out for a jog today. My second one this wee! One of my New Year goals is to exercise more. Those who know me well, know that I’m not a long distance runner. In school, I was a sprinter. In fact, I was the fastest girl in my school at one stage in the 100m sprint. I have always been rubbish at running longer distances. But being surrounded by parks, and needing to save some money, jogging seems like the best option for now. Although it’s only the second time I’ve been out this week, I’m already enjoying it. It’s very much walk, jog, repeat at the moment, but it’s already giving me more energy. Although it has also made me realise just how unfit I am.
Social Media Detox
Another goal I have managed to stick to is spending less time on social media. As the clock struck midnight on New Years Eve, I deactivated Facebook, LinkedIn, and one of my Instagram accounts. My social media time is already down by 9% this week. I haven’t missed Facebook and LinkedIn at all. In fact, my mind feels more relaxed for not having them on my phone.
I still need to work on my other goals, but there is no rush to achieve everything straight away.
To end the weekend, I cooked a roast and enjoyed a glass of wine in front of the TV.
Let’s see what the next 7 days has in store!

My mind didn’t come up with any useful idea to help about the Xmas tree haha. I would go with the throwing away bit, and do a sprint to clean everything out before the neighbours get a chance to see it? 😀 2019 has been wobbly indeed. Fingers crossed that it will get better soon. I’m happy you are already exercising more and working towards your goal. Focusing on that helps a lot and I feel much more motivated by knowing you have fitness goals too! I hope you have much more family meetings half-way, sounds very healthy and a good opportunity to explore different locations. How did you manage with the roast? I always had to buy an entire chicken and then be eating chicken for an entire week… 😀
